In most cases, bollards are anchored to the floor using 70 x 100 expansion anchor bolts. This system is accessible for any user, as it only requires drilling a ∅12 hole.

In specific situations where the substrate does not guarantee adequate fixing, the use of chemical anchors is recommended to ensure correct fastening.

For the PLUS range, anchoring is carried out by drilling a ∅50 hole in the floor for insertion of the tube with nut. It is then filled with concrete or chemical anchor, thus achieving firm and stable fixation of the rod.

  • Do I really need bollards, or are signs or barriers enough?

    Bollards are required where there is a foreseeable risk of vehicle impact at specific points. Safety signage provides warning only and does not provide physical protection. Barriers are suitable for protecting linear or extended areas, whereas bollards are used for point protection of exposed elements such as columns, doors, machinery, and infrastructure within vehicle operating zones.

  • What type of impact should they withstand?

    The required impact resistance must be defined according to the vehicle type, operating speed, mass, and resulting kinetic energy. Typical scenarios include pedestrian pallet trucks, forklifts, and heavy goods vehicles, each producing different impact loads. Selection should be based on a quantified risk assessment, with reference to recognised test methodologies such as PAS 13:2017 for workplace impact protection systems.

  • Should I choose fixed, removable, or fold-down bollards?

    Fixed bollards are used for permanent protection where vehicle access is not permitted. Removable bollards are used where occasional access is required without permanently compromising protection. Fold-down bollards are suitable for controlled or frequent access scenarios. Selection depends on access frequency, operational requirements, and whether protection must remain continuous or intermittent.

  • What height and diameter do I need?

    There is no universal standard size. Dimensions must be determined based on the design vehicle, impact height, and required energy absorption. Larger and heavier vehicles require increased structural capacity and foundation depth. Final dimensions should be defined through engineering design based on site-specific risk assessment and expected impact conditions.

  • Are bollards or a horizontal barrier more suitable?

    Bollards are appropriate for protecting discrete impact points such as structural elements or access interfaces. Horizontal barriers are designed for continuous protection of linear areas such as aisles, loading bays, and perimeter zones. In many installations, both systems are combined to provide layered protection and reduce residual risk exposure.

  • How can I choose them in a practical way?

    To determine the ideal road protection, prioritize coverage and permanence: use bollards for specific points and barriers for entire sections. If the restriction is constant, choose fixed models; for specific access points, choose removable or folding barriers. In the event of repeated vehicle impacts, select the material based on impact energy, not aesthetics or price.
