The Smart-Dock loading platform revolutionizes the creation of loading points by eliminating the need for a pre-formed concrete pit. This advanced permanent formwork box integrates the dock leveler and its wiring at the factory, reducing slab execution errors and drastically shortening civil works and installation times.

It reduces the risk of human error during slab construction, shortens installation time and minimizes costs by eliminating the need to build a concrete pit. Smart-Dock platforms are ready for immediate use once installed.

They are a versatile solution for hinged lip or telescopic lip dock leveler configurations, with painted, galvanized or stainless steel finishes, ensuring full adaptation to any industrial or climatic environment.

Main application: New-build projects or warehouse extensions requiring fast commissioning without complex pit construction.

Lip types

Configure your Smart-Dock platform with a hydraulic dock leveler with hinged lip, suitable for most operations, or with a telescopic lip for greater precision.

Benefits and operational return

Reduced civil works costs

As it acts as a permanent formwork system, it eliminates the need to build side and rear concrete walls, reducing material and labor costs.

Faster commissioning

It allows your industrial building to become operational much sooner, bringing forward the start of logistics activity.

Minimization of errors

It avoids costs caused by errors in traditional pit measurements, ensuring a perfect fit and preventing corrective works on the slab.

Durability and strength

The reinforcement with 10 IPN 100 beams prevents metal fatigue, while its operating range from -20°C to +50°C ensures performance in any environment.

Maintenance of the metal formwork and dock leveler

Inspection and cleaning

Checking level accuracy and cleaning the pit to protect the lifting cylinders.

Lubricación

Greasing articulation points, especially the 24 mm lip shaft and the rear hinges.

Sistemas

Checking the oil level for operation within the range of -20°C to +50°C, as well as inspecting hoses and the emergency stop.

Safety

The use of the safety mast or support strut is mandatory in order to mechanically lock the leveler during maintenance work.

Frequently asked questions

  • Should the pit be planned from the structural design stage?

Yes. In a conventional solution, the dock leveler requires the pit to be defined and built on site according to the exact dimensions of the selected equipment, so it must be coordinated from the design stage with the structure, slab and closures. Dimensions are not universal: they depend on the model, width, length, lip type and leveler capacity. This is where Smart-Dock offers a major advantage.

  • For which dock leveler models is it available?

It is a versatile made-to-measure system designed for both Alapont Global hinged lip dock levelers and telescopic lip dock levelers.

  • What if the pit is built incorrectly or outside tolerance?

This is one of the main concerns in projects with multiple loading bays, because an error in dimensions, levelling or geometry can delay installation and require additional civil works corrections. Smart-Dock is presented as a solution to reduce human error during slab execution and dock leveler housing preparation.

  • At what stage of the project should the dock leveler be installed?

In a traditional system, the pit is built first and the dock leveler is installed afterwards, coordinating structure, concreting, finishes and electrical work. By contrast, with Smart-Dock, Alapont supplies a formwork box with the dock leveler already pre-installed in its own pit and the wiring prepared, which greatly simplifies this sequence.

  • How does the construction sequence change when using Smart-Dock?

With Smart-Dock, the construction logic changes from “build pit + install dock leveler” to “place pre-assembled box + concrete/integrate into the structure + connect controls”. It arrives protected, is placed on a smooth and level surface, and the required dimensions are basically reduced to the total dock height and the spacing between loading points.

  • Why is Smart-Dock useful in projects with many loading bays?

Because when dozens of loading points are repeated, any site deviation is multiplied. Smart-Dock helps standardize execution, reduce installation times, minimize corrective works and provide greater control for site management, especially when several trades must be coordinated at the same time.

  • What must be prepared on site if Smart-Dock is installed?

The dock height, the spacing between loading positions, a smooth and level base to receive the unit, and the electrical power supply to the control panel must be planned in advance. Once construction is completed, the protections are removed and the panel is connected where the electrician has provided the power supply.

  • What advantage does it provide in terms of project schedule?

The main advantage is faster and simpler installation: as it arrives pre-assembled, the installation phase is shortened and dependence on precise pit execution by civil works is reduced. It is specifically presented as a quick and easy installation solution.

  • Is a traditional pit or Smart-Dock more advisable?

It depends on the project, but Smart-Dock is particularly suitable when there are many loading points, tight deadlines and a need to repeat the same solution in an industrialized way. On the other hand, a traditional pit may still be valid when the civil works are already highly defined or very specific custom solutions are required.
